For people like me, coming from a legacy infrastructure, Nutanix it’s a real game changer.
The SEIC-Télédis Group, based in Vernayaz in the Swiss canton Valais, is one of the canton’s major players in the field of energy, multimedia and electricity. The Group with some 300 employees supports municipalities, companies and individuals in their projects to generate energy, improve the energy efficiency of their buildings and heating. They are strongly committed to the development of renewable energies and regularly invest in solar, wind and mini-hydraulic projects.
The IT department of SEIC-Télédis Group was looking for a reliable server solution that supports the team with ease, consistency and performance, necessary for the core business to function flawlessly. The time for update-management should be reduced significantly.
After a successful PoC, which was very much appreciated by SEIC-Télédis, the Group decided to deploy 2 Nutanix clusters. The purpose of these clusters is to host all servers on AHV and to allow the use of VDI with Frame. Prior to this step, SEIC-Télédis used to be on VMware ESXi and had to migrate all the machines with Move. “After the PoC, it was a good time to change the servers”, said Robin Tauxe, IT Manager, SEIC-Télédis, “Nutanix with AHV gave us a breath of fresh air”. Tauxe also acclaims the Nutanix support, which he rates as “much better than other supports I know”. Furthermore, he is very glad that the Nutanix solution is a one-stop shop, without additional products from other vendors. The VDI project is still ongoing, SEIC-Télédis is going to replace the View Horizon Client with Nutanix Frame.
Key stakeholder at SEIC-Télédis Group are pleased with AHV: “The results are good, we have gained in reliability, ease of management and simplicity of use”, said Robin Tauxe. He adds: “The management of updates has been greatly facilitated, we update our now clusters during the day without any worry”. One of the main impacts on the IT department is the ease of management, which results in less time spent managing VDI- and VSI-solutions.
“For people like me, coming from a legacy infrastructure, Nutanix it’s a real game changer”, said Tauxe. “Before the migration, finding a window for update-management really gave us a headache. Now with Nutanix, it’s so easy. We can do it during working hours, and we know that everything will work good, we will experience no down time at all.”
Fun fact: When Tauxe informed one of his managers of the completed migration, he could not believe it – as he did not experience any service interruption or break.
The management of the partners’ external access will be managed through Nutanix Frame. This solution will allow SEIC-Télédis to grant secure remote access and to control this access. This is a great added value for the group - which is constantly increasing its external interactions.
“Our goal is to provide ubiquitous and uninterrupted access to data for our employees”, said Robin Tauxe. “Nutanix meets this goal perfectly and it is this reliability that is necessary to carry out our business.”
SEIC-Télédis also wants to use Nutanix applications such as Nutanix Flow and Nutanix Files (including File Analytics) in the very near future. They want to use micro-segmentation with Flow, set up playbooks and use Beam for their multi-cloud management.
