HIT Infrastructure: Perspective from a Field Sales CTO

After spending almost a decade working in Healthcare IT (HIT) with my sleeves rolled up as a CTO, I witnessed firsthand the intensity of the challenges that face HIT. I worked tirelessly to support clinicians and end-users, to innovate for my organizations, and to manage effective budgets for demanding leadership. My ultimate goal (or so I thought!) was to work hard and retire early, so when the time was right, I traveled the country in a motorhome and moderated C-level IT thought leadership events around the world.

I’ve been a decision-maker, an investor, and consumer of an incredible variety of technologies throughout my career, but none have impressed me the way that Nutanix has. And so, when an unexpected opportunity with Nutanix Healthcare presented itself, I knew it would be more than just a job; it was a way to give back to the HIT industry. And, an opportunity to champion revolutionary technology that I’ve witnessed simplify IT for healthcare organizations worldwide.

The challenges of running Healthcare IT are intense:

  • Infrastructure. The “technical debt” and high costs of a refresh.
  • Applications and Innovation. This is how IT adds value to healthcare, not by spending limited resources on data centers and infrastructure.
  • Cybersecurity. Disruption planning, and ability to recover quickly from things like ransomware attacks — without paying the ransom! 
  • Cloud Complexity. How to control costs, avoid vendor lock-ins, and ensure your staff can effectively and simply manage it all. 

It is rare to find a technology company that really "gets" healthcare … a company that enables HIT to lower infrastructure expenses, optimize staff productivity, and simplify hybrid multicloud management. Nutanix does. This includes a security-first mindset that enables rapid recovery from things like ransomware attacks, with customer support that is healthcare-specific and the BEST in the world.

This is why I joined Nutanix Sales as the Field CTO, in Sales focused on Healthcare. It’s a game-changing way to address all these issues for healthcare IT, and I want to reach as many provider organizations as possible to leverage these amazing benefits just as I did in multiple hospital systems throughout my career. 

After all, what we do at Nutanix is invisible, but what YOU do as a healthcare organization is not.
