MDP empowers banks and FinTechs across over 40 countries with end-to-end digital payments solutions. Delivering world-class performance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to a rapidly scaling client base while still on legacy infrastructure meant significant human resource investments, rising operational costs, and drawing focus away from high-value endeavors. Hyperconverged Infrastructure was identified as a must have, and Nutanix stood out as being able to deliver the entire solution as a ‘sole provider’.

Nutanix has taken our infrastructure to a new level of performance and service availability. Our APIs now respond faster and this enables our clients to create powerful and reliable use cases that set new benchmarks for innovation and convenience in the payments industry.
As a leading card issuing and processing platform, MDP enables businesses to effortlessly roll out financial solutions – ranging from personalized card production to digital transaction processing. The company managed to uphold SLAs for its rapidly scaling customer base, but doing so while still utilizing legacy infrastructure was becoming increasingly labor and resource intensive.
“Regular maintenance for the 24x7x365 operation meant frequent, high-stress patching windows which were complicated by the complexity of our environment,” explained Amr Madkour, IT Director at MDP. “Time and efforts that should have been spent on advancing towards our leadership's vision of becoming the MEA region’s leading card issuing and processing platform was instead being squandered on frustrating, low value tasks.”
To keep growth, commitments to clients, and real-time transaction performance on track, MDP needed a more robust, and high-performance IT environment. “We were convinced by the simplicity, scalability, and ease of management of the hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) approach,” said Madkour.
“Nutanix stood out as the only vendor that could act as a single provider of world-class technology, expertise, and support. The positive feedback from our regional peers in the digital payments processing space was especially impressive,” he added.
Comparison to a solution offered through the collaboration between to globally recognized technology vendors quickly revealed that Nutanix HCI could provide more capacity, and better resource management for the same workloads, thereby reducing both upfront and operational costs.
Madkour states that migrating to Nutanix has 'unlocked the potential of the business', enabling MDP to rapidly capitalize on opportunities and claim greater market share. "Nutanix has taken our infrastructure to a new level of performance and service availability. Our APIs now respond faster, and this enables our clients to create powerful and reliable use cases that set new benchmarks for innovation and convenience in the payments industry," he said.
With the ability to process over 75 million cards at 150 transactions per second, Nutanix has enabled MDP to convert its pipeline of prospects into satisfied customers who enjoy world-class SLAs. Madkour highlights that with the infrastructure’s recovery point objective (RPO) and recovery time objective (RTO) approaching zero, disaster recovery scenarios have been drastically simplified. “The value of this is especially immense given that even a moment’s delay with a digital transaction could forever tarnish customer perception. Our elevated levels of performance and availability translate to a strong competitive advantage for the banks and FinTechs we serve,” he said.
Nutanix has even enabled MDP’s IT team to achieve the exceedingly rare, but much sought after outcome of ‘achieving more with less’. “Thanks to the high performance of Nutanix HCI, we are able to lower our allocation of computing resources for production VMs while achieving improved performance. This has a direct positive impact on the license costs and TCO,” Madkour said.
Offering an example of how Nutanix’s support perfectly complements the quality of its technology, Madkour said, “We once faced a minor service interruption which lasted for less than a minute and was automatically resolved. After rapidly pointing us towards the root cause, Nutanix’s support team continued to actively monitor the performance and availability of the system for two whole days despite the issue being so minor and fleetingly short.”
Taken all together, these benefits mean MDP is now better positioned than ever to support its customers and fulfill its vision of becoming the leading card issuing and processing platform in Egypt and the MEA region.
“MDP sees Nutanix as a technical business partner that is vitally important for our operations as a third-party digital payments processor. Our company is dependent on technology, and as long as our technology partners are strong, our company will expand steadily and securely,” Madkour said.
“We are growing rapidly in Egypt and simultaneously expanding across the wider MEA region. We will undoubtedly reproduce our success with Nutanix everywhere we go,” Madkour concluded.
