Nutanix Bolsters Operations In South Africa to Drive Continued Growth

Web-scale Infrastructure Provider Focuses on Placement of Local Skills, Investment into Region and Commitment to Channel

JOHANNESBURG, SA – November 12, 2014Nutanix, the web-scale converged infrastructure company, today announced that it will be expanding in South Africa to better service its growing Sub-Saharan African customer and channel base. Customers who deploy Nutanix in the region can now take full advantage of a simple and highly available virtualised IT infrastructure platform for all workloads and cloud platforms, as well as reduce TCO by as much as 60% within months as opposed to years. Due to growing demand in web-scale technologies, Nutanix recently closed a $140 million Series E funding round at over a $2 billion valuation, bringing its total funding to $312 million.

Speaking at a private press lunch in Johannesburg this week, Paul Phillips, Regional Director, Western Europe & Africa at Nutanix commented: “Nutanix web-scale solutions are powering the most demanding applications and services in mission critical IT environments around the globe. While we have enjoyed a presence in South Africa and parts of Africa through our channel, the growing demand for our hyperconverged solutions in South Africa, Angola, Nigeria and Kenya has prompted us to fast track investment and commitment into the region.”

As part of the launch, Nutanix will build out a team of sales and technical Nutanix skills to support partners, as well as the appointment of a country manager. Currently the company works through a local distributor, Bitrate, and a host of partners that have made a considerable investment into resourcing teams to deploy Nutanix in the region. In addition, as part of its global distribution strategy, Nutanix will be appointing an additional distributor to provide greater reach into Sub-Saharan Africa.

Nutanix is also delighted to announce that Bytes Systems Integration has been signed as an official reseller of Nutanix in the region. As one of the largest providers of storage and virtualised data centre solutions in South Africa and with an international footprint that extends throughout Africa and the Middle East, the relationship forms a key component of Nutanix’s expansion strategy in the region and highlights the growing importance of web-scale IT infrastructure to enterprise customers.

“Bytes is really excited about our partnership with Nutanix and the potential it holds for our customers,” states Mike Broderick, Divisional Director, Data Centres and Storage – Bytes Systems Integration. “What really interests us about the partnership is the potential opportunity it presents in enabling us to take the same agility that companies like Google and Amazon enjoy and bring it directly to our enterprise customers. We believe that through this relationship we will be able to enable our customers to emulate these big on demand IT shops, simply, cost effectively and very rapidly, using commodity IT components.”
