High Profile Appointment Brings Wealth of Corporate Counsel Experience to Help Build a Company of Lasting Value
SAN JOSE, CALIF. September 16, 2014 – Nutanix, the web-scale converged infrastructure company, today announced the appointment of Eric Whitaker to the position of chief legal officer. Eric is a high profile award-winning general counsel with more than 20 years experience in a range of industries. He joins Nutanix from SanDisk (NASDAQ: SNDK), where he was senior vice president and chief legal officer of the Fortune 500 company. Over his career, he has managed one of the top ranked patent portfolios in the world and developed an intellectual property strategy that resulted in more than $750 million in licensing revenues.

Eric joined SanDisk from Tesla Motors (NASDAQ: TSLA) where he was general counsel and corporate secretary. Following the company’s IPO, he structured and negotiated major corporate transactions, developed Tesla’s intellectual property portfolio and formulated strategies for international growth. Prior to Tesla, Eric spent seven years as executive vice president of corporate strategy and general counsel at Lexar where he led all legal aspects of the company’s rapid growth.

Eric was recognized by the Daily Journal as one of the “25 Leading General Counsel” in California in 2011. In 2012, he received the Legal Department of the Year award for his leadership of the legal team at Tesla Motors. In 2013, he received the Legal Department of the Year award for his leadership of the legal team at SanDisk. Eric also serves on NASDAQ’s Silicon Valley Advisory Committee and the Board of Visitors of Stanford Law School.
