We’re excited about how we can double down with Nutanix to build the next generation of cloud; what people are going to need, not what everybody has today. That’s our focus, and we are driving as hard as we can to where the puck is going, not where the puck is now.
A longtime Nutanix Elevate partner, US Signal has established a culture that is relentlessly focused on growth and innovation. When the company acquired OneNeck IT Solutions in 2024, the organization saw a great opportunity to do both.
“When US Signal purchased OneNeck IT Solutions, we acquired a fleet of great data centers, expanded our presence to the west coast, got the opportunity to work with amazing new teammates and customers, and integrated a cloud practice focused on Nutanix solutions at a critical time where customers needed it the most” said John White, Chief Operating Officer at US Signal. “With the structure and scale that we have now, we are continuing to build the foundational infrastructure of data centers and fiber, where cloud solutions live so we can support continued innovation as we enter the AI era”
Over the next year, US Signal will have invested heavily in expanding two major data centers in Des Moines and Detroit, building a thousand of miles plus of high density fiber for the hyperscalers, and 8 micro-edge data centers.
White and his team are seeking to not only meet customers’ existing demands for cloud and managed services but are also getting ahead of the next wave of innovative technologies where latency is a key metric.
“We’re building a fiber network designed for AI,” he said. “There’s not currently enough fiber across the country to support the density that AI builders and hyperscalers actually need. We’re building with the AI revolution in mind. If you don’t have the foundation built, you really don't have much. As we move forward, we are layering cloud and managed services on top of that foundation.”
Together, US Signal and Nutanix offer a wide variety of innovative multi-cloud services and next-generation infrastructure. Nutanix Cloud Platform enables customers’ IT teams to run their workloads, at scale, while removing the complexities of legacy infrastructure.
As a Champion Elevate service provider, US Signal offers organizations their ReliaCloud cloud service powered by Nutanix. This customized cloud service can be flexibly configured and scaled to meet their customer’s specific needs. US Signal offers value-added services including Disaster Recovery (DR) for business resiliency, Storage-as-a-Service, Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) for end-user applications and data, and more.
One of US Signal’s top end-customers, a leading industrial equipment and productivity solutions provider, is using a full set of infrastructure and services powered by Nutanix. The organization serves tens of thousands of industrial and commercial customers in nine U.S states.
“Our customer is one of the largest, most diverse industrial organizations in the country,” said John Hein, Cloud Specialist at US Signal. “Their primary use case with us today is a set of clusters, both production and DR, and the bulk of the nodes in this design are for AutoCAD support. They're supporting VDI using Citrix, running AutoCAD and tons of GPUs to make this happen. They've been doing this for quite some time, and they've been growing rapidly.”
US Signal has two production and two disaster recovery Nutanix clusters supporting the manufacturer’s critical workloads, applications and virtual desktops. Additional US Signal reserved nodes can be leveraged for disaster recovery providing immediate capacity, while providing better economics while not in fail-over use. Its main production site resides in Madison, Wisconsin, with connectivity to US Signal’s robust DR facilities in Minneapolis.
“The customer has over 370 VMs, with more than 315 AutoCAD VDI users,” said Hein. “It’s an all-Nutanix design that was previously on VMware before they migrated to AHV in 2020,” said Hein. “They also have Nutanix Files Storage in cluster supporting VDI home directories.
The combination of advanced Nutanix technologies and deep service expertise from US Signal has yielded impressive dividends.
“After putting these two great companies together, we are meeting our customer’s needs and having fun doing it,” said White. “We have a strong story with connectivity, cloud, data center, managed services, professional services, and even hardware resell. We offer cloud in a capital heavy or light model allowing us to meet the needs of our customers.”
End customers are experiencing positive outcomes from these solutions as well, which in turn helps drive more success for US Signal.
“Our manufacturing customer is rapidly growing through acquisitions,” said Hein. “They continue to add additional companies to their portfolio—which of course is driving the need for more and more infrastructure and support on our side.”
With its Nutanix-powered service offerings, US Signal has enabled its end customer to support significant user and node growth. The DR solution from US Signal lets the manufacturer achieve an aggressive one-hour recovery point objective (RPO) and a four-hour recovery time objective (RTO). The solution also provides the ability to predict cluster capacity needs, then add just-in-time capacity to support that growth leveraging US Signal Reserved Nodes.
"As part of the Solution Architecture team supporting the US Signal service model, it's been incredibly rewarding to help this manufacturer align their business objectives with our ReliaCloud Hosted Private Services, powered by the Nutanix Cloud Platform,” said Hein. “Our commitment to continuous innovation and delivering best-in-class managed services is strengthened by Nutanix’s cutting-edge technology. Together, we bring powerful solutions to life—Nutanix drives the innovation, and we ensure seamless implementation and support for our customer.”
The Nutanix and US Signal partnership is continuing to thrive, and US Signal remains focused on extending its connectivity infrastructure as well as its data center footprint.
“We’re in a phase of heavy growth, and our goal by 2028 is to have 30 data centers, each of which supports another market, and another sales team,” said White.
The focus on future-ready solutions is expected to gain additional momentum, driven by commitment at a leadership level.
“We are putting in a lot of new R&D focus on our connectivity and data center expansion, and we have recently hired a new head of innovation who will help guide development,” said White. “We’re excited about the different offerings we can provide with Nutanix.”
