Syxperiane Boosts Growth by Streamlining its Infrastructure with Nutanix

To keep pace with the move towards SaaS and increased competition, Syxperiane has overhauled its infrastructure, opting for the Nutanix platform. This transformation has helped the French IT services company streamline costs, improve performance, and boost growth, while simplifying administration of its data centers.

Overview

A leading player in the field of resale and implementation of management software packages (ERP, CRM, HRIS) and BI solutions, Syxperiane is an IT services company based in Nantes, France, which helps businesses with their digital transformation. Founded in 2007, the company rolls out on-premises and hosted solutions, with a comprehensive package of installation, maintenance, and hosting services via its own data centers. In 2021, it enhanced its integrator services and stepped up its territorial growth with the acquisition of a Lille-based company. Now boasting 210 employees, this acquisition enabled the company to boost its revenue from €8 million in 2021 to €24 million in 2023.

Key Benefits

  • 60% lower operating costs
  • Improved performance and resilience
  • Streamlined administration (tasks down from 4 hours to 30 minutes)
  • Lower IT environmental footprint: from 6 to 2 racks
  • Improved customer satisfaction

Thanks to Nutanix, we have not only improved performance and responsiveness, but also simplified administration and reduced operating costs. Now that we have a homogeneous, resilient, and scalable infrastructure, we are much more confident in our ability to manage day-to-day operations and look to the future.

Challenge

The 2021 acquisition has certainly been a factor in the company's soaring revenues. But that is not the only explanation. With the market shifting towards SaaS and increased competition on hosting offers, Syxperiane has reviewed its strategy in order to optimize operating costs and increase flexibility. “With this acquisition in 2021, we have grown from 70 to 250 VMs, hosted in five data centers spread between Lille and Nantes. Our legacy 3-tier infrastructure was reaching end-of-life. So, we took the opportunity to completely overhaul our strategy, rationalize our costs and increase our agility,” said Vincent Rialland, Head of Infrastructure & Hosting at Syxperiane.

As a result, the company decided to reduce the number of data centers to two, based in Nantes. At the same time, it opted for the hyperconverged Nutanix platform to upgrade its infrastructure.

Solution

Considering the type of management software we host, the slightest malfunction can have a significant impact on our clients' operations. What we needed was a resilient, high-performance, secure infrastructure that could be easily scaled up to support our growth ambitions, without having to rework the existing infrastructure at every turn,” said Vincent Rialland. “Hyperconverged infrastructure met all our criteria, and if you're going to choose a solution, you might as well go for the market leader. So we opted for the Nutanix platform, switching from our legacy hypervisor to AHV in the process.

The migration process involved several stages, with a focus on consolidating infrastructure from Lille to Nantes. Nutanix helped with platform sizing and provided guidance throughout the process. The target infrastructure consists of two active-active production sites, with six Nutanix nodes on one site and five on the other, guaranteeing high availability of services.

Still in progress, the migration has already enabled Syxperiane to achieve sizeable savings, with a 60% reduction in operating costs and a significant gain in space in its data centers, down from six to two racks. The company has also achieved faster, more reliable deployments with Nutanix Calm (now renamed NCM Self-Service), and reduced energy consumption and CO₂ emissions by streamlining its infrastructures.

Next Steps

Vincent Rialland readily acknowledges that he is delighted to have chosen a Nutanix infrastructure, especially as he did not fully grasp at the time all the benefits it would bring, particularly in terms of ease of administration. “The single pane of glass was a major breakthrough: administration tasks now take 30 minutes instead of four hours,” he said. “We now have a consistent infrastructure, fully managed from a single console, which has allowed us to streamline capabilities and improve both responsiveness and flexibility when working on our clients' solutions. We've also found that Nutanix support is extremely responsive! And of course, our performance has improved, which also translates into greater customer satisfaction.

With this robust, high-performing, scalable foundation, Vincent Rialland feels much more confident in his team’s ability to manage day-to-day operations and handle unexpected challenges. “We're now in a much better position to continue our growth and attract new clients, while also streamlining our operations and anticipating future market developments,” concluded the Head of Infrastructure & Hosting at Syxperiane.
