London Gatwick is the United Kingdom’s second largest airport and is instrumental in driving the regional and national economy. In 2024, over 43 million passengers travelled through the airport, which offers access to more than 160 short-haul and 54 long-haul destinations, served by 59 airlines.
Airport IT officials needed to migrate from a legacy 3-tier system to a modernized hyperconverged infrastructure to support crucial changes, including an additional runway, the ability to accommodate 50 million passengers a year by 2027, and reduced power consumption to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.

Gatwick Airport IT adopted NCP as its new infrastructure and leveraged the Nutanix Move migration tool to easily migrate workloads from its legacy infrastructure to Nutanix. Nutanix Professional Services helped build confidence with a lower-risk migration journey, unlocking the full potential of NCP through comprehensive discovery, governance, migration planning, architecture design, deployment, and education services. It also delivered automation and optimization services to drive ongoing value and innovation for Gatwick. Most notably, the Nutanix team supported the implementation of next-gen security at Gatwick IT. Travelers do not need to remove devices and liquids out of their bags anymore. They can put their packed bag in a tray and pass through security.

At the end of the day we’re going to move on away from VMware, and move on to Nutanix, which is more supported, it’s newer tech, everything is a lot better.
