GC Biopharma faced several challenges in operating its existing IT infrastructure. In the past, multiple legacy systems were operated in a decentralized manner, creating a need to strengthen interconnectivity and integration among various business systems to improve operational scalability and the ability to address production issues. Since system stability in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment directly impacts product quality and patient safety, enhancing these capabilities was recognized as a critical priority.
Since adopting Nutanix in 2020, GC Biopharma has expanded its infrastructure a total of eight times, focusing on key workloads such as ITSM, internal accounting, and HR evaluation systems. Building on this experience, the company pursued a modernization initiative to migrate its core MES to a container-based web application server (WAS) environment. After reviewing various alternatives, GC Biopharma ultimately selected NKP based on its unified operating environment, reduced management complexity, and confidence in its long-term product roadmap and technical support. Deployed in the core MES environment at GC Biopharma’s Ochang plant, NKP provides a foundation that enables the company to respond more quickly and flexibly to changing manufacturing environments through robust container orchestration and integrated management capabilities.
Kim Hong-gu, Head of the IT Infrastructure Department at GC Biopharma, explained, “We were able to effectively optimize database and I/O performance through Nutanix’s CVM disk allocation structure and VG-based system configuration.” He added, “We improved both stability and processing speed even for performance-critical workloads, and the zero-downtime upgrades enable us to respond swiftly to changing production demands.” He added that this was one of the key factors in selecting NKP.
The adoption of NKP has transformed GC Biopharma’s overall IT operations. Operational efficiency has significantly improved as container workloads, which were previously distributed, can now be managed within a single framework. Furthermore, Nutanix Prism has enabled a “single pane of glass” view across storage, compute, and virtual machines, significantly reducing the time required for maintenance and day-to-day operations. Automated network and application alerts allow for rapid detection of failures and shorter recovery times, thereby enhancing the overall stability and resilience of the system.
