Dalvkot enables Vydehi Hospital Group to improve patient care by reducing waiting times and giving clinicians faster access to medical information.
Dalvkot helps its healthcare customers deliver better patient care through faster access to medical data and reduced waiting time. It deployed the Nutanix Cloud Platform, migrating Healthcare Information Management Systems (HIMS) and other critical applications over to the hyperconverged infrastructure platform, for Vydehi Hospital Group. As a result, Vydehi clinicians are able to deliver their diagnosis and treatment quickly and accurately, while IT teams benefit from simplified management, increased reliability, and the ability to scale infrastructure seamlessly to meet growing patient and data demands.
5x faster access to medical data
Reduced HIMS request response time from 3,420 milliseconds to just 5.5 milliseconds
Greater reliability
Uptime increased to over 99%, with new levels of resiliency ensuring business continuity
Improved sustainability
IT footprint is now 50% smaller and consumes 60% less energy
With Nutanix, we are helping our hospitals provide clinicians with rapid access to patient data so they can make accurate and confident decisions and deliver a superior level of healthcare.
Dalvkot Utility Enterprises (Dalvkot) provides a range of software consultancy services which include digital marketing, website development, mobile app development solutions, learning management systems and hospital information management systems. Founded in 2016, the company, which operates multiple subsidiaries, addresses the needs of its customers in Indian and international markets.
Dalvkot is the official IT service provider to Vydehi Hospital Group (Vydehi), which operates a 1,600-bed medical facility in Bangalore offering a full range of advanced medical services, including 24x7 emergency unit, critical care unity, blood bank, lab and ambulances services. Dalvkot supports Vydehi with several IT services, including managing the hospital’s critical Health Information Management System (HIMS) that gives medical staff quick access to patient data.
As the hospital continues to add more data, systems and applications, its legacy 3-tier infrastructure became too complex to maintain Vydehi tasked Dalvkot to look for a solution that could deliver greater performance for better patient services while keeping systems highly available, resilient, cost-effective, and easy to manage.
To deliver its goals, Dalvkot moved Vydehi away from its legacy infrastructure to a hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) that simplifies infrastructure by combining compute, storage and networking into a single, integrated platform. G Ramprasad, operation head of IT infrastructure at Dalvkot, says, “We chose Nutanix Cloud Platform because it removed the complexity of managing multiple layers of hardware. Plus, the all-in-one Nutanix dashboard allowed us to make routine management tasks like scaling and patching very simple.”
Dalvkot worked closely with a Nutanix team as part of the evaluation process. "The support from Nutanix was excellent, giving us confidence in the technology and the company," remembers G Ramprasad. “The support and training we received helped us understand Nutanix’s value and led to a seamless deployment and integration with systems such as the HIMS.”
Dalvkot has deployed eight Nutanix HCI nodes, divided into two clusters: one four-node cluster for production and one for disaster recovery. Dalvkot implemented the Nutanix AHV hypervisor to control virtual computing resources and uses Nutanix Prism to manage the clusters. “We selected Nutanix AHV over other hypervisors because of its seamless integration and the ease of management it delivered,” states G Ramprasad. Post deployment, Dalvkot then migrated Vydehi’s HIMS, accompanying MySQL databases, and other systems, including enterprise resource planning applications for other customers, to Nutanix.
Healthcare data delivered faster
With Nutanix, Dalvkot reports improved the performance of the HIMS at Vydehi, helping medical staff gain faster access to patient data. “HIMS requests now run faster – improving from 3,420 milliseconds to only 5.5 millseconds,” said G. This ensures clinicians have medical information at their fingertips to deliver the best treatments with very little waiting time. And in healthcare, every second counts—whether it's accessing critical patient records for emergency surgeries or retrieving diagnostic data during time-sensitive procedures.
K Srikar Dalavai, chief operating officer at Dalvkot, says, “By migrating Vydehi’s HIMS to Nutanix, the hospital group can continue delivering world-class healthcare and stay focused on its patient-centric approach, giving medical professionals rapid access to the data they need to deliver the highest quality care.”
Improved service reliability
In addition to greater performance, Dalvkot has improved the resiliency of its applications to customers such as Vydehi. According to Dalvkot’s IT team, applications are now more highly available with uptime of around 99%, that is 8-9% better than the previous infrastructure. This means that patients can be more confident that medical care and services are less likely to be disrupted by system downtime. Moreover, if there are any unplanned outages, hospital systems and patient data would continue to remain accessible for the medical workers.
Comments Mr. S. Durgaprasad, lead technical architect for IT at Dalvkot, “Backing up production data is noticeably quicker on Nutanix, reducing the risk of downtime should issues occur. For instance, backing up a heavily used document management system (DMS) server now takes only 5 minutes when it used to take around 40 minutes. By improving uptime on Nutanix, we can add another layer of protection to Vydehi’s hospital systems for better healthcare delivery.”
Halved IT footprint and reduced energy use by 60%
Dalvkot says it has increased the sustainability of its operations by reducing its hardware footprint by 50% and cutting energy consumption by 60% with Nutanix. Given Dalvkot’s commitment to the environment, the reduction helps IT stay aligned with the organization's broader aims to promote environmental protection. It also allows Dalvkot to drive growth when many customers are looking to work with suppliers that share their commitment to reducing emissions.
Improved operational efficiency, resources diverted to drive innovation
By controlling IT through a single Nutanix dashboard, Dalvkot has significantly simplified IT management. An infrastructure team of 10 used to administer the three-tier legacy infrastructure, but now it takes just two administrators to cover the entire Nutanix platform. As a result, Dalvkot has been able to reallocate the rest of the team to more strategic tasks, driving development of new applications and services for patients. Management activities like software patching are automated, allowing the Dalvkot team to set-and-forget this routine process. “Nutanix has helped us strengthen our security posture by automating the patching of and updating of software, effectively fixing possible vulnerabilities,” says Chaitanya T, security head for IT at Dalvkot.
While there are no immediate plans to move data to the public cloud, Dalvkot has the infrastructure to adopt cloud computing over the next few years. Ultimately, Dalvkot customers will decide on cloud adoption when the time comes. "With Nutanix, we have the foundation to start leveraging public cloud whenever customers decide," says G Ramprasad. “Nutanix’s flexibility ensures we are well-prepared for future opportunities.”
