AACD modernizes IT infrastructure and saves with Nutanix hyperconvergence

The nonprofit Brazilian organization’s newly implemented environment supports all critical applications that are essential to serving its patients

Overview

AACD (Associação de Assistência à Criança Deficiente) is a nonprofit organization that has a complete infrastructure dedicated to the rehabilitation and habilitation of people with physical disabilities and orthopedic patients. It has an Orthopedic Hospital, seven rehabilitation units, five orthopedic workshops, and four partnerships in the technical cooperation model.

When the organization needed to modernize its technological infrastructure to sustain its growth and continued support of patients, it decided to implement Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure. Completed in the second half of 2021, the project was implemented and supported by Add Value, an integrator with extensive experience in cloud technologies and hyperconvergence. As a result of implementing Nutanix, AACD saved around $55,000 per year, increased its scalability, and improved its operational efficiency.

Challenge

Founded in 1950, AACD provides an average of 800,000 visits per year to patients of all ages, most of them via the Unified Health System (SUS) at no direct cost to them. It also serves patients with physical disabilities and orthopedic ailments through health plans and privately.

With around 1,900 employees and 1,000 volunteers, AACD performs approximately 50,000 consultations, 30,000 exams and delivers around 55,000 orthopedic products per year.

AACD also has the AACD Lesf school unit, their education and research sector, the AACD Esporte, which contributes to the inclusion of people with disabilities in sports, and the technical cooperation project, which takes the institution's standard of excellence and expertise to different parts of Brazil through partner entities.

As such a large and impactful organization, AACD found that it needed to modernize its technological infrastructure to sustain its growth and support the increase in services provided and patients treated in recent years.

Solution

AACD conducted a market study and decided to partner with Nutanix to implement its hyperconverged infrastructure solutions.

“Without a doubt, the Nutanix solution presented the best cost-benefit ratio,” details Victor Kaspar, IT Manager at AACD. “By purchasing Nutanix hardware to create new work environments, we found that we could provide the infrastructure for the organic growth of AACD by 40% to 50%, while gaining availability, scalability, and space in addition to annual savings of about $55,000 per year.”

All integration with the existing on-premise datacenter was very smooth and trouble-free upon the implementation of the Nutanix infrastructure carried out by Add Value, an integrator specializing in cloud, hyperconvergence, networking, security and virtualization technologies. In addition to the implementation, Add Value also provided technical support to AACD in partnership with Nutanix.

“It was gratifying to be able to participate in a project for an institution with as much social importance for Brazil as AACD,” shares Thiago Spósito, a partner at Add Value. “With this Nutanix infrastructure, AACD is prepared for an increasingly digital future and the delivery of even more qualified services.”

Customer Outcome

The Nutanix infrastructure at AACD takes up one-eighth of the space it originally occupied and provides more than 60% in energy savings. The Nutanix environment supports all critical applications such as Business Intelligence, management systems, physical stores, NGOs, property security, heart monitors, and back office in addition to the communications of the nine AACD units.

“The entire IT environment now has simple visualization and management. All cargo handling is agile, providing a higher level of governance for a critical environment that operates 24/7 and is responsible for the operation of several emergency applications. It is now possible to create more environments faster, without large operational costs and the need to provision hardware purchases,” reinforces Kaspar.

Next Steps

Nutanix is proud to support an organization as committed to serving the residents of Brazil as AACD, and hopes to increase the scope of their partnership in years to come.

“It was a great pleasure to assist AACD in moving toward the future and keeping up with technological trends,” shares Leonel Oliveira, General Director of Nutanix Brazil. “With hyperconvergence, the infrastructure becomes more proactive and ready to respond to requests for IT resources even before demands are made, providing AACD with flexibility and scalability. This way, it is possible to save time and money, in addition to enhancing the services provided to the community.”
