Nutanix Joins OPEA to Further Open Enterprise AI

By Mike Barmonde, Product Marketing Manager, AI

Nutanix is excited to announce its inclusion in the Open Platform for Enterprise AI (OPEA). OPEA is a Linux AI and Data Foundation project dedicated to developing an open platform for enterprise AI. Nutanix includes multiple open-source projects in its products and actively contributes to open-source projects.

"GenAI innovation in the enterprise needs to take into account evolving business needs, inclusive of resiliency and scalability, existing technical infrastructure, and secure data access. The entrance of Nutanix into the OPEA project takes us a step closer to making these types of solutions accessible to all."

Bill Pearson, VP, Data Center and AI Software Solutions & Ecosystem

Nutanix joined the OPEA project to help drive innovation in GenAI by providing a modular, multivendor enterprise-ready platform that eases the pathway for our customers to build GenAI solutions.

Open Platform for Enterprise AI

So, what is OPEA? Let’s look at this fantastic project and its impact on Nutanix customers who use AI.

What is OPEA?

From the website:

“OPEA is a framework that enables the creation and evaluation of open, multi-provider, robust, and composable GenAI solutions. It harnesses the best innovations across the ecosystem while keeping enterprise-level needs front and center.”

More specifically, it offers:

  • A detailed framework of composable building blocks for state-of-the-art GenAI systems, including large language models (LLMs), data, and prompt engines.

  • Architectural blueprints of retrieval-augmented GenAI component stack structure and end-to-end workflows.

  • A four-step assessment for grading GenAI systems around performance, features, trustworthiness, and enterprise-grade readiness.

As Nutanix customers plan, build, and deploy AI solutions for their customers, OPEA helps guide their developers via end-to-end GenAI blueprints like chatbots, document summarization, and agentic AI solutions.

Nutanix and OPEA: Where Cost-Effective AI Meets the Enterprise

Nutanix’s goal is to help customers achieve their GenAI objectives. As Nutanix Chief AI Officer Debo Dutta states, “Nutanix is committed to helping enterprises everywhere simplify, control and secure their GenAI initiatives…” OPEA used with the Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP) solution can deliver exactly that, with benefits that can include:

  • Potential cost reductions for your GenAI initiatives by using Nutanix infrastructure with OPEA and Intel AI with AMX technology.

  • Improved resilience of security for your private data.

  • Enabling Day 2 operations for AI workloads.

With the Nutanix Enterprise AI (NAI) solution and the Nutanix full-stack of private cloud solutions, you can run your AI anywhere from edge to public clouds.

NAI Full Stack: Open Platform for Enterprise AI

Nutanix Cloud Platform full-stack solution for AI with OPEA and Intel AI accelerators.

Reduce costs for your AI initiatives by using Nutanix infrastructure with OPEA and Intel AI technology

Understanding how different AI workloads can run efficiently on different AI accelerators has the potential to deliver cost savings while still delivering the outstanding performance customers need and expect. Intel inference solutions built using OPEA help accelerate AI apps using Intel Xeon CPUs with Intel AMX for cost-effective solutions to run LLMs or build retrieval augmented generation (RAG) pipelines.

NCP is a full-stack hybrid cloud software solution that provides customers with the choice of hardware, virtualization, containerization, data services, and much more using Intel enabled infrastructure.

New AI workloads may be used with existing hardware today to get started on AI initiatives using just CPU-based AI acceleration with Intel AMX, which is cost-effective, light on power consumption, and can run inferencing against many large language models easily with NAI.

Improve the resiliency of security for your private data

Data is the lifeblood of a modern AI strategy. A continuous and private data pipeline for GenAI operations has many moving parts and can be daunting to build. OPEA, Intel, and Nutanix make data operations for AI simple to operate, resilient in nature, and private for your peace of mind.

RAG is the killer application for enterprise AI by feeding business data into GenAI models, creating new insights, discrete customer experiences, and content for specific customers.

Key parts of NCP, namely, the Nutanix Unified Storage and Nutanix Database Service solutions, help deliver hybrid cloud data services for AI while enabling data sovereignty and Day 1 resiliency. From multicloud snapshots of applications to total awareness of structured and unstructured data, Nutanix delivers control of data for AI. Intel Xeon CPUs with Intel AMX provide the key AI acceleration for RAG with hardware-enabled security to protect these assets.

Enable Day 2 operations for AI workloads

Like any workload, the real effort begins when it's launched. AI is no different. From support to performance challenges, understanding where and how AI applications can fail means requiring a complete view of an ecosystem, from hardware to data.

OPEA provides key solutions from blueprints to readiness assessments to assert visibility and control over your AI ecosystem. For example, the OPEA AutoRAG project helps evaluate your system end-to-end for performance.

When paired with NAI, you can use its dashboard to gauge LLM query times or even GPU usage at the hardware level for a holistic view from app to infrastructure, with capabilities to audit, monitor and test under one pane of glass.

Use OPEA on Nutanix Today

GenAI solutions do not require a hefty infrastructure investment. Start creating and developing your enterprise GenAI solutions using OPEA with NCP to achieve a resilient AI infrastructure that’s private, centrally managed, and includes Day 2 operations for today and tomorrow.

What’s your next move?
