Announcing Nutanix Cloud Clusters on Google Cloud Public Preview

Expanding freedom of choice and workload mobility have long been core to the evolution of Nutanix products. We’re pleased to announce a path to another major cloud provider with the addition of the Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2) solution on Google Cloud public preview.

This public preview opens up a simple path to the cloud with faster migration, app modernization and disaster recovery. It also creates a common operating model across hybrid and multicloud environments so you can support big data and AI innovations.

Like many others, we are always on a journey to modernize and shift to achieve the best outcomes for our customers. Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2) on Google Cloud brings us a solid platform to continue our hybrid cloud expansion. Our ability to seamlessly run workloads on-premises and on NC2 on Google Cloud without having to re-factor is increasingly valuable as we continue our modernization journey. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Google Cloud and Nutanix.

Nutanix Cloud Platform

The NC2 on Google Cloud solution uses the NC2 Portal to deploy the Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) software stack and its advanced cloud platform features – including AI, Kubernetes®, database management, and file storage – on Google Cloud’s newly released Z3 bare-metal instances. This enables you to build a complete hybrid cloud solution in just a few hours.

NC2 on Google Cloud public preview program comes on the heels of NC2 on AWS and Microsoft Azure and is an important product milestone in our continued commitment to support hybrid multicloud infrastructures.

Nutanix Cloud Clusters on Google Cloud creates a true hybrid cloud solution directly in customers’ VPCs, enabling them to take advantage of all the cloud has to offer. NC2 will help organizations accelerate their workload migration to Google Cloud while also modernizing their environments with native Google Cloud services. Our storage-optimized Z-instance types provide a strong foundation for Nutanix to enable edge and hybrid solutions that can extend the benefits of Google Cloud to run anywhere.

Google Cloud’s Z3 bare-metal instances are the same physical servers that will be used for the new storage-optimized Z3 family of Google Cloud VM instances. They are intrinsically part of Google Cloud Compute Engine rather than a connected managed service. The public preview will be available in regions across the Americas, Europe and Asia*.

Z3 - Global Availability Map

Running the same Nutanix HCI software on these Google Cloud bare-metal instances – as well as on a range of datacenter server hardware platforms that include Dell, Cisco, Lenovo, and HPE platforms – creates a hybrid cloud with consistent management, governance, operations, performance, and resilience across multiple public, private and service provider clouds.

The Nutanix native security, replication and orchestration capabilities enables workload protection and migration between datacenter, cloud and edge, while being consistently governed by policy-based management.

VMs and applications deployed on NC2 clusters in Google Cloud will be able to connect seamlessly to native Google Cloud services and the Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP) running in customers’ on-premises datacenters.

Other integrated Nutanix services like the Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) enable NC2 on Google Cloud to be a launchpad for application modernization without complex, in-flight transformation strategies.

Here’s a summary of what you can expect from NC2 on Google Cloud:

  • Accelerate Google Cloud adoption with zero-application-change migrations for fast time-to-value.

  • High storage and compute density and cost efficiency on Google Cloud bare-metal instances, which is designed to help reduce microwaste.

  • Simplify hybrid cloud with existing Google Cloud accounts and VPCs for integration.

  • Flexibly move licenses between on-premises and Google Cloud with Nutanix license portability.

  • Gain multitiered disaster recovery protection for business-critical applications.
