June 8, 2021 | min

GigaOm, a leading analyst firm recognizes Nutanix Objects as an Outperformer in its radar, for Enterprise Object Storage and additionally, a Fast Mover in High-Performance Object Storage. The reports analyze the leading object storage vendors across thirteen key criteria and evaluation metrics. Collectively, these reports represent the most comprehensive view of object storage in the industry today, spanning across a variety of use cases from traditional cheap and deep storage repositories to running high performance applications such as big data analytics, AI, and HPC. Nutanix Objects is a new entrant to the radar and already has a strong foothold in the innovation quadrant.

Rise of Object Storage in a Hybrid Cloud World

The market landscape for object storage has been changing rapidly and radically. While the S3 API isn’t an official standard, it has been added to many applications and developers are adopting it for a growing number of use cases. “It is clear that part of the growth in enterprise object storage in the last year is attributable to the many digital transformation initiatives that enterprises started because of the COVID-19 pandemic”, says Enrico Signoretti, Analyst, GigaOm. “In such cases, object storage is the best choice because of its accessibility characteristics compared to other solutions.” Primarily used for archiving and backup, the technology is also gaining traction for its mammoth capacity, processing power, and cybersecurity capabilities.

GigaOm’s Radar for Enterprise Object Storage: Outperformer

The GigaOm Radar for Enterprise Object Storage recognizes Nutanix Objects as an Outperformer, being the only vendor in the Innovation/Platform quadrant with “impressive usability and maturity”. The current position on the radar signifies Nutanix Objects leading the pack on technical innovation and a broader platform focus. It signifies our commitment to a comprehensive feature set instead of a narrow focus on specific functionality. The report focuses on strengths such as ease of use, high performance, security, flexibility, and cluster lifecycle management - “as easy as you would expect from Nutanix” says the report. GigaOm also cites that Nutanix Objects has “lean architecture that includes an integrated load balancer for simplified operations and better performance”. This report validates that “Nutanix Objects has an innovative interpretation of Object storage” that goes beyond traditional cold storage workloads, but it is also a great fit for modern cloud native and big data analytics workloads.

GigaOm’s Radar for High Performance Object Storage: Fast Mover

High-performance object storage is quickly gaining traction in the enterprise space. The GigaOm Radar for High Performance Object Storage evaluates leading Object Storage providers with a lens on performance and ability to support next-generation workloads – think cloud native, IoT, big data analytics, AI, and demanding interactive workloads. The radar acknowledges the strong performance of Nutanix Objects and recognizes it as a Fast Mover in this space. The report calls out “multi-tenancy capabilities based on strong consistency that allows Nutanix Objects to be used for interactive workloads,” as well as, “good management of relatively small files with deduplication and compression to further expand the range of potential use cases”. Nutanix Objects also works well with cloud-native workloads and in hybrid cloud scenarios to host a multitude of line of business applications.

Leading the Pack

Across criteria and evaluation metrics, Nutanix Objects was ranked by GigaOm as having a "strong focus and perfect fit” in Security, Analytics, Multitenancy, Kubernetes Support, Manageability, Flexibility, Ecosystem, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
