2020 - State of the End User Computing Union survey is now open

March 10, 2020 | min

Hoorah! The ‘State of the End User Computing Union 2020’ survey powered by ‘VDI Like a Pro’ is now open. The goal of the survey is to get a clear view on how End User Computing (EUC) technologies are used in the field, how adoption is changing, and what to expect in the future. The ‘State of the EUC Union’ survey started in 2013. Last year, (2019), close to 750 respondents participated in the survey, making this initiative the largest community-powered research effort in the EUC market.

Topics in the 2020 survey will cover EUC technologies including Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS), Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI), Graphical Processor Units (GPUs), security, and management solutions.

Insights about the use and update cycle of Windows 10, hypervisors, end-point devices, Google Apps, Office365, and unified communication adoption are also covered. The survey wraps up with a few questions about key initiatives for 2021 and beyond -- overall, we’ll be gaining great insights for sure!

The results of the survey will be published in a whitepaper which will be free and publicly-available after registration at www.vdilikeapro.com. The content will be presented at local community groups and leading industry events such as Microsoft Ignite, VMworld, Citrix Synergy, Nutanix .NEXT, NVIDIA GTC, E2EVC, and more.

VDI Like a Pro is truly a community-driven independent research organization and the initiative is led by Ruben Spruijt -- Senior Technologist at Nutanix, Mark Plettenberg -- Senior Product manager at Login VSI, and Christiaan Brinkhoff -- Global Black Belt at Microsoft. They are passionate about End User Computing connecting, collecting, and sharing insights with everybody interested.

What are some of the new items you can expect in the 2020 survey?

In the past 6 years, we have covered a number of key EUC topics in the survey and we won’t stop in 2020. The beauty of the historical data is the ability to create trend reports covering such topics as the rise of Windows 10, the increase of (v)GPU availability, the rise of HCI adoption overtaking traditional SAN, and the decline of application virtualization/isolation usage. It’s great to see the results of various battles between partners and competitors. For instance, the battle on hypervisor usage for VDI, the battle between different VDI vendors, and the ‘VDI versus SBC’ discussion. This all provides great insight as to what others are using now and possible plans for the future. Finally, there is a strong interest in public cloud services and especially Desktop as a Service (DaaS) -- we’ve added a new DaaS segment in the survey because of this popular demand.

The new segment addresses multiple aspects of DaaS, including the current state of deployments, why DaaS, challenges and advantages of DaaS, DaaS use cases, which DaaS service is used (e.g. Amazon, Citrix, Microsoft, Nutanix, VMware), use of public cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP), and/or hybrid cloud infrastructure for the workload VMs, published desktops vs. published applications, GPUs in public cloud, and much more.

Ready, Set, GO!

This yearly research is a global initiative by and for the entire EUC community. For this reason, we ask the help of all that share the same passion to fill out the questionnaire. Please take 15 minutes of your time to contribute to this important initiative. As always, data will be collected, processed, and presented anonymously.

How you can help:

  1. Fill out the questionnaire yourself. Please reserve 15 minutes of your time for this valuable endeavor.
  2. Share and distribute this message using your own networks -- invite your colleagues to contribute to this worthwhile effort!

The first phase of the survey will be closed on the 10th of April this year. 3 participants will be randomly selected and will win the #VDILIKEAPRO Dutch Experience Package :-)

We really hope you choose to participate and become an EUC/VDI Rockstar! For more information please contact team@vdilikeapro.com, or reach out to Ruben Spruijt, Christiaan Brinkhoff, and Mark Plettenberg via social media.

Thanks for your support!
