Introduction
You can’t scale mission-critical applications on a fragile foundation. We built the Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) solution to deliver simplicity and ease of use, helping organizations avoid compromising on the foundational principles of security and stability. To support this ongoing enterprise focus, we are thrilled to introduce NKP 2.18. This latest release is focused squarely on strengthening the platform's core, bringing you proactive infrastructure safeguards and hardened security features to help your environment remain secure, compliant, and well-integrated. Let's explore the key enhancements in this release.
Hardened from the Ground Up: Rocky Linux™ & Kubernetes STIG
Security is only as strong as the layers beneath the application. While NKP has always prioritized host-level security, NKP 2.18 expands your choice of enterprise-grade, hardened OS options while moving compliance features further up the stack to the Kubernetes layer itself.
- NIB Support for Rocky Linux 9.7: We’ve added Nutanix Image Builder (NIB) support for the latest Rocky Linux release. This enables simple deployments for a stable, community-driven, and RHEL-compatible OS.
- Kubernetes-Level STIG Validation: We announced validated, STIG-compliant Ubuntu images with the release of NKP 2.17. We are now extending those same rigorous standards to the next layer of the stack. NKP 2.18 introduces Kubernetes-level STIG validation, designed to support customer efforts to meet strict federal and enterprise security mandates. By automating these complex requirements, NKP helps to prepare your environment for audits from the moment it is provisioned.
A Modern Foundation: Support for Kubernetes 1.35
NKP 2.18 brings support for upstream Kubernetes 1.35, a release where the community has focused heavily on operational stability. By moving to 1.35, NKP users can now leverage:
- In-Place Pod Vertical Scaling: Adjust CPU and memory resources for your containers without needing to restart the Pod—perfect for maintaining uptime during performance spikes.
- Improved Resource Management: Full alignment with cgroup v2, providing more granular control and better performance for modern Linux distributions.
Intelligent Safeguards: Enhanced Nutanix Preflight Checks
One of the biggest risks to cluster stability is "Day 0" configuration errors. To mitigate this, NKP 2.18 introduces additional preflight checks specifically for Nutanix infrastructure.
Before you deploy a new cluster or apply a configuration change, NKP now performs a deeper validation of your Nutanix environment. These checks verify everything from networking connectivity to storage availability and resource quotas. By catching potential issues before they impact your environment, Day 2 operations can begin with confidence.
Why NKP 2.18?
NKP 2.18 is about reducing risk. By combining the latest stable Kubernetes version with hardened operating systems and proactive infrastructure validation, we are providing a platform that is:
- Secure by Design: With FIPS/STIG support and modern identity management.
- Stable by Nature: Using deep infrastructure checks to help mitigate human error.
- Built for Compliance: Helping reduce the manual overhead of meeting strict regulatory standards.
If your goal is to spend less time troubleshooting infrastructure and more time delivering value, NKP 2.18 is built for you.
