Nutanix Breaks Final Barrier to Delivering All Applications to All Virtual Desktop Users

New NX-7110 Powers Video and Graphics-rich Applications with Workstation-level Performance

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 21, 2013Nutanix, a leading provider of hyper-efficient, massively scalable and elegantly simple datacenter infrastructure solutions, today launched its NX-7110 Virtual Computing Platform, the industry’s first converged infrastructure solution that optimizes graphics-intensive virtual desktops. This new platform enables companies to build a single infrastructure to deliver 100 percent of their virtual desktops at the highest possible performance.

Virtual desktop computing has become mainstream in organizations of all sizes worldwide. However, despite its broad success, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) has been unable to run graphics-intensive applications with the same level of performance as physical workstations. The launch of NX-7110 overcomes these deployment challenges, bringing rich multimedia and graphics to virtualized environments. This new converged platform is built specifically for virtual desktops running graphics-intensive applications – including geospatial services, video streaming, CAD design, 3D rendering and more. And with support for multiple hypervisors, the Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform becomes the platform of choice for both VMware Horizon Suite and Citrix XenDesktop deployments.

“We standardized on the Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform for our VDI infrastructure based upon the company’s impressive vision and technical capabilities,” said David Avery, Systems Administrator, General Dynamics C4 Systems, LandWarNet School, supporting the U.S. Army. “The delivery of a solution that is built for graphics applications, but managed as part of a larger VDI environment, is further validation of our decision to choose Nutanix for our next-generation datacenter infrastructure.”

The NX-7110 integrates NVIDIA GRID and Teradici PCoIP technologies enabling users to work with the same graphics applications that they use every day, but via a desktop that is delivered virtually. Combining NVIDIA’s GRID and the Teradici PCoIP Hardware Accelerator solutions with the scalability and performance of Nutanix’s virtual computing technology enables enterprises to tackle virtual desktop deployments of unprecedented size and scope. For the first time, enterprises can move away from expensive and rigid physical workstations and applications to be accessed from anywhere, using any device. With the NX-7110, even the most demanding graphics applications can be delivered to an inexpensive laptop or mobile device with performance rivaling that of expensive desktop workstations.

“The Nutanix NX-7110 Virtual Computing Platform combines state-of-the-art NVIDIA GRID graphics technology with the simplicity and scalability of converged infrastructure,” said Justin Boitano, General Manager of the GRID business at NVIDIA. “By harnessing the graphics power of NVIDIA GRID, companies can now secure and mobilize even their most demanding 3D applications.”

Enterprises can add the NX-7110 to an existing Nutanix cluster to seamlessly integrate graphics-intensive workloads, all managed via a single, unified console – Nutanix Prism. Multiple configurations of the NX-7110 are available so datacenter managers can precisely meet the virtual desktop needs of specific user groups within their organizations.

“Our mission with the Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform is to help enterprises support the most demanding end-user initiatives,” said Howard Ting, Vice President, Marketing and Product Management, Nutanix. “The NX-7110 represents a significant step forward in desktop virtualization, and solidifies Nutanix as the first and only converged infrastructure provider to deliver all applications to all virtual desktops.

Nutanix Releases New NX-3000 and NX-6000 Virtual Computing Platforms

Nutanix also released five new platforms in its NX-3000 and NX-6000 product families that feature Intel Ivy Bridge processors. The new NX-3060, NX-3061, NX-6060, and NX-6080 offer the best price-performance for server virtualization, private cloud, VDI and big data environments. These new platforms support up to 115 virtual machines on a single host, and deliver 30 percent faster performance than existing Nutanix platforms. The new NX-6020 delivers 25 percent more storage capacity enabling enterprises to cost-effectively scale storage resources for data archival and storage-heavy workloads.
