Hyundai Hysco Selects Nutanix for Initial Foray into Virtual Desktop Computing

Simplicity, Fast Deployment, Scale-out Architecture and ROI are Key Criteria for Win

Seoul, Korea, Nov. 20, 2013Nutanix, a leading provider of hyper-efficient, massively scalable and elegantly simple datacenter infrastructure solutions, today announced that its virtual computing platform appliances have been deployed by Hyundai Hysco, the steel manufacturing subsidiary of the Hyundai-Kia Motors Group.

The steel making company had an initial goal to provide better data and application security to its internal employees, remote workers and business suppliers. “We needed to be cautious in our selection because this was an important project and VDI was a new technology to us. We spent a considerable amount of time reviewing and testing alternatives and ultimately chose Nutanix because its converged infrastructure made the deployment and management so fast and easy, and equally important was the estimated return on investment for VDI” said Jung Unyoung, representative for the IT Innovation Team, Hyundai Hysco. “We believe VDI to be an important element of our IT strategy and set up a rigorous series of tests and analyses before adoption. The Nutanix solution easily met all our goals for easy and quick deployment, performance, management and a scalable converged infrastructure that facilities growth for our business and our datacenter which is evolving as software defined. These are just a few of the reasons why Nutanix scored higher than the competition.”

The Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform which Hyundai Hysco adopted converges compute and storage resources into a single appliance and enables a ‘pay as you grow’ architecture andstrategy, keeping project costs low while offering easy growth when needed. Subsequent to this initial project, Hyundai Hysco plans to expand the deployment across the entire company. Completion of the program will centralize sensitive data of internal and external Hyundai Hysco employees, increasing protection of intellectual property while leading to better efficiency and productivity of datacenter operations.

“Most organizations do not realize that 7 out of 10 VDI initiatives are cancelled or postponed before a single desktop is virtualized. Cost, complexity of the needed infrastructure, space, weight, power, performance, management and more often kill the project before it’s started. The Nutanix converged infrastructure architecture delivers everything that is needed in a simple, inexpensive, 2U size appliance and can grow easily and quickly based on need. Nutanix was the logical choice for Hyundai Hysco,” said Kim Jong-Dug, Country Manager of Nutanix Korea. “We highly value our partnership with Hyundai Hysco and anticipate expansion throughout Korea in our other areas of high performance such as server virtualization and Big Data.”
