System Center Data Protection Manager 2016 and Nutanix

VM-level backups with Hyper-V

With AOS 5.5 and Windows Server 2016 UR1, administrators can now use System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) for VM-level backup with Hyper-V in Nutanix environments. This support helps you derive maximum benefit from your existing System Center investments and can reduce the cost of backup for your Hyper-V deployments.

Advantages of using DPM with Nutanix include:

  • Recovery points can be file- or application-based and support incremental or express full backups, depending on the application.
  • Express full backups can take advantage of changed block tracking (called RCT) in Server 2016 to transfer only modified data, saving administrative time and lowering RTOs and RPOs.
  • Store backup data on different media types, including tape, disk, or (when using Azure) the Microsoft Azure Backup Server (MABS).
  • Flexible backup policies include protection ranges that define retention over a period of time, synchronization frequency, and recovery points, which outline backup frequency and data loss requirements.
