2019 Hispanic Heritage Month Recap

Each year, Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15 to honor the rich history and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Mexico, Central America, South America, Spain, and the Caribbean.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month here at Nutanix, our LatinX LIFE Group (one of our employee resource groups) organized celebrations at our offices across the globe. At Nutanix, we believe diversity and inclusion help drive our innovation, and we welcomed the chance to bring people together to honor our LatinX employees and to learn about the rich history, notable role models, and vibrant traditions that hail from Hispanic cultures.

Nutanix Familia

Traditionally, Hispanic culture places a high value on the family as the most important social unit. The company-wide theme for this year’s celebrations is “familia,” which is used to describe one's family and may extend to include one’s close circle of friends and co-workers.

Here’s a look at some highlights from our celebrations across the globe that included learning about historical figures, experiencing traditional food, taking part in traditional music and dance, and coming together to understand how Hispanic cultures have influenced our lives and communities.

I have to tell you that for me, it was an amazing experience, seeing Nutanix colleagues from all cultures coming to taste Latin food and dance with Latin music. I believe this activity promoted respect and knowledge from my culture, which I am very proud of. I am beyond happy to have had this opportunity at Nutanix.

“I was surprised at the length Nutanix went to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Not only did the team decorate and cater with a crazy amount of food (8+ different empanadas), but they also brought in a live Mariachi band who played for 2 hours straight. Who does that?! It’s amazing that Nutanix never stops raising the bar while maintaining quality, detail, and culture.”

“It was such a pleasant surprise to come into the office one day and notice all the Hispanic Heritage Day decorations; those are the little things that make the difference. It's definitely a great atmosphere to work in and an environment where everyone gets together as a group, to celebrate one of the most important holidays in Mexico.”

I’m proud to be an intern who works for a company that not only acknowledges diversity at work, but also supports minorities within the community. As a Latina in tech, it is important for me to work for a company that supports my ambitions and celebrates my culture.
