Nutanix Appoints Wayne Neich A/NZ MD, Opens APAC Support Centre in Melbourne

Industry veteran says Nutanix is fighting the only storage war that matters

Sydney, Australia, September 10, 2013

Nutanix, the leading provider of hyper-efficient, massively scalable and elegantly simple data centre infrastructure solutions, has appointed Wayne Neich to the role of Managing Director Australia/New Zealand.

Neich will be responsible for all aspects of sales and support. He brings more than 25 years of sales and business management experience to Nutanix and has already established – and expanded – emerging technology companies within the region.

“Nutanix was ‘love at first sight’,” Neich said. “If you are in our industry long enough you know that when a technology comes along that is destined to change things in a fundamental and powerful way, you want to be a part of that technology. Nutanix defines ‘disruptive’. It is arguably the most profound IT infrastructure solution since the advent of the hypervisor. It revolutionises the deployment of servers, storage and virtualisation. Convergence and scalability as offered by Nutanix’s Virtual Computing Platform is transformative. It will radically lower costs for organisations and ramp up efficiencies. How could I not want to be a part of this?”

Neich’s appointment comes on the heels of Nutanix winning Best of VMworld 2013 Gold Award for Private Cloud Computing and a global expansion that has seen the company open more than eight offices in the AsiaPacific/Japan region in the past nine months while it has grown to an annualised run rate of more than US$80 million.

“People are talking about so-called storage wars, but those on the data centre front lines know that the only thing that really matters now is how storage and compute must converge into an almost infinitely scalable package. Frankly, anyone who isn’t doing convergence is selling something that’s already obsolete.”

Prior to Nutanix, Neich was responsible for establishing Silver Peak Systems’ business in the A/NZ region. Silver Peak Systems became the leader in Software Defined Network Acceleration, changing the way storage and virtualised infrastructure is optimised. Neich also established the Blue Coat Systems’ business in Australia and New Zealand. Over a five-year period, Blue Coat Systems became the premier Secure Web Gateway solution with nine of the MIS Australia TOP 10 accounts using Blue Coat Secure Web Gateways to protect their employees and businesses.

Signalling Australia and New Zealand’s importance to Nutanix’s Asia Pacific regional growth strategy, the company has located and now formally opened its regional customer support centre in Melbourne. The centre will provide technical support for the company’s customers, partners and resellers throughout the entire region.

“The decision to house this critical support centre here is a testament to the quality of the technical personnel we have in the A/NZ region. It means we have the ability to support all our partners and customers whatever their size and needs,” Neich said.

As part of the company’s growing reach, it has appointed a distributor in Australia/New Zealand – WhiteGold Solutions – and established partnerships with a range of resellers throughout the region to help companies create the infrastructure needed to support adoption of virtualisation and, in particular, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) projects. Nutanix is also working in a number of vertical markets in Australia and New Zealand including professional services, healthcare, education, retail and government. The company counts organisations such as the Australian Rugby Union, Pearson Research and Assessment, Sanity Music, and the Taranaki District and Southland Regional Councils, among its customers.

Nutanix’s growth in Australia and worldwide is due to a surge in demand for converged infrastructure solutions combining compute and storage in a single appliance. Research firm IDC estimates that total worldwide spending for converged infrastructure will reach US$17.8 billion by 2016, up from an estimated US$4.6 billion during 2012. Accordingly, the firm estimates that converged infrastructure will make up 12.8 percent of the total storage, server and networking and software spend by 2016, up from only 3.9 percent in 2012.1
